JOLLER

Privacy policy

Last updated 12 September 2026

This policy covers JOLLER, the event discovery app at jollertribe.com. It explains what we collect, why, and what you can do about it. It is written to meet South Africa's Protection of Personal Information Act (POPIA).

Who is responsible

JOLLER is operated by Jollers (Pty) Ltd, a company registered in South Africa (registration number 2026/553636/07). Jollers (Pty) Ltd is the responsible party for the personal information described here.

Requests under POPIA are handled by our Information Officer. To reach them about anything in this policy — including a request to see, correct or delete your information — use the contact form.

What we collect

When you create an account

  • Your email address, which is also how you sign in
  • A display name
  • Which kind of account you have — joller, curator, DJ, vendor or admin

What you choose to add to your profile

  • A profile picture, a city, a short bio
  • Your preferred genres
  • A rave name, if you want one

All optional. Leave them blank and the app works the same.

What you do in the app

  • Events you favourite
  • Events you mark yourself going to or interested in
  • Entries you add to your calendar

When you write to us

  • The name, email address and message you submit
  • The IP address the message came from, which is kept to stop the form being abused

On your device

Your favourites, your going/interested marks, whether you have seen today's intro screen, and a cached copy of the site logo are stored in your browser so the app works quickly and offline. This stays on your device. We use no advertising cookies and no third-party analytics or tracking.

Why we collect it

To let you sign in, to show you your own favourites and calendar, to let curators manage their listings, and to answer you when you write to us. We do not sell personal information, and we do not share it with anyone for advertising.

Email we send

We only send email you have asked for: sign-up verification codes, password reset codes, and replies to messages you send us. No newsletters, no marketing. Email is sent through Amazon Simple Email Service.

Where it is stored

On Amazon Web Services in the London (eu-west-2) region — Cognito for accounts, DynamoDB for data, S3 for images. AWS processes this on our instructions and under their own security controls. Information is therefore stored outside South Africa; AWS is bound by contractual terms that require protection comparable to POPIA.

How long we keep it

  • Account and profile information: until you ask us to delete your account
  • Favourites, attendance and calendar entries: until you remove them or delete your account
  • Messages sent through the contact form: as long as we need them to deal with what you wrote in about, and no longer

Your rights

Under POPIA you may ask us to:

  • tell you what personal information we hold about you
  • correct anything that is wrong
  • delete your account and the information attached to it
  • stop using your information for a particular purpose

Ask through the contact form and we will respond. You can edit most of your profile yourself in the app at any time. If you are not satisfied, you may complain to the Information Regulator of South Africa.

Children

You must be 18 or older to hold a JOLLER account. We do not knowingly collect personal information about anyone under 18 — if you believe we have, tell us through the contact form and we will delete it.

Events listed on JOLLER set their own age restrictions. Seeing an event here is not permission to attend it — that is between you and the organiser.

Changes

If this policy changes, the date at the top changes with it.
