About JOLLER
The Story of Joller
Joller (n.) — South African slang for someone who loves to party — and now, your digital home for finding one.
Joller was born in December 2021 when I moved back to Cape Town after completing my “Zuma” year in Ladysmith. Most of my old friends had moved away, leaving me with a clean slate and a bucket-list mission: attend a festival completely solo.
My first solo mission took me to Horizons Sunday Funday, a spur of the moment decision which was also the very next day after a boogey at Sexy Groovy Love. It’s here where I met a total chatterbox on the d-floor, “M”, The Dancefloor Philosopher and his partner “A”, The Festival Fairy — two incredible souls that I still treasure today. These two told me about this spectacular festival Origin, which, because of work, I had to do as another lonesome mission. There I was, lugging my bags, tent, and a cooler box through the gate alone (since I’m a “one-trip kinda gal”) not knowing where to go or who I would find, only to hear my name being called from afar. And there to my left the universe had aligned that the two special souls from Horizons had just happened to be pumping up their mattress by the car, and spotted my trademark messy bun walking by. They led me to their tribe, the Trance Cats, who I camped with and then through them met the extended Techno Cats along the way. There I was told about the next festival, Love Project, which once again due to adulting responsibilities I ended up doing another lonesome mission. This is where I became immediate best friends with “Y”, The Shadow Front-Runner, stomping front-left on the dancefloor. And just like that, with each adventure thereafter I found out about more festivals, met more amazing beings and my tribe started growing.
I fell in love with the festival culture: the absolute freedom, the wild outfits, escaping society for three days, the endless laughter, nonstop banter and finding a real, unfiltered community. But keeping track of the best events was overwhelming, so I started compiling a simple list.
That list became my festival bible for five years. I went from a solo newbie to a festival veteran in record time — eventually earning the name “Doof Doof Mommy” from my AfrikaBurn theme camp for always being the go-to for all festival advice and needs.
Slowly, the list spread to friends, eventually morphing with the legendary WhatsApp community many of you know today as “The Cape Town Jol Group”.
But the girl with the list had bigger ideas. I wanted to build a seamless, user-friendly home where anyone can easily discover their vibe and join their tribe.
Welcome to Joller. May you have the most spectacular adventures and magical moments with the weird and magnificent creatures you meet along the way.
Much love
Doof Doof Mommy
What it is
JOLLER is an event and festival discovery app for South Africa. Jol is local slang for a party, and the idea is simple: make it easy to find one worth going to, and easy for the people putting them on to be found.
Who it is for
- Jollers — people looking for something on. Browse and search events by genre, date, city and price, save the ones you like, and keep them in one calendar.
- Curators — the people running events. List an event with its line-up, stages, venue, ticketing and vendors.
- DJs and musicians — the people playing them. Keep a profile that the events you are booked for link through to.
What it costs
Nothing. Browsing events and creating an account are free. JOLLER does not sell tickets — where an event has a ticket link, it points you at whoever is selling them.
Where it runs
JOLLER is operated by Jollers (Pty) Ltd, a company registered in South Africa (registration number 2026/553636/07). The app runs on Amazon Web Services in the London (eu-west-2) region.
